As God’s people, let’s be sure that we offer assistance to the residents in Lago Vista by:
- Honoring and respecting the dignity of each resident by:
- making personal contact with them in setting up the work to be done
- including/joining them as much as possible in the work that needs to be done
- honoring their requests, as much as possible, in how the work gets done
- using the resources/supplies that they can provide as much as possible
- taking time to listen to their stories
- having a humble attitude, realizing we all have needs requiring the help of others
- Trying to build a long-term friendship
- Look for ways to develop your friendship while you are there helping
- Try to build bridges so that you can continue the friendship after the work is done
- If the work can’t be completed on the work day, arrange with your crew leader to schedule a time to return and get it done
- Be sensitive to cultural and language differences
- Have a learning attitude if their cultural or language differences with those that you are serving.
- Do your best to communicate and be willing to take the time to learn from them
- Demonstrate the love of God through your friendship and service
- I John 3:18 “Children, you show love for others by truly helping them, and not merely by talking about it”.
- Some of the Lago Vista residents have committed relationships with the Lord, others do not. Ask God to help you be sensitive to what He wants you to share about Jesus.
- Be sure to be praying for God to use you as a blessing however He leads you to help.
